Chase Travels: Newport-Bermuda Race, 2006

In 2006, Chase partner Alex Agnew gathered a crew together to race in the Newport-Bermuda Centennial Race – the 100th anniversary of the founding of the race, which was the first ocean race to be founded for amateur sailors. In 1906 there were just three boats, all under 40 feet; in 2006 Alex participated with over 200.

While she may not have placed in the top of her class, she finished, which required patience and skill on the parts of captain and crew.

Not to mention what was probably the classiest arrival in Hamilton – she was skippered in under sail alone due to her misbehaving engine!

The crew was met at the dock by the best return delivery crew ever assembled bearing a case of cold, cold beer and a welcome to remember.

Chase’s crew was:

  • Alex Agnew, Skipper
  • Ed Tarlov, Navigator
  • Ken Ott, Watch Captain
  • Walter Garschagen, Watch Captain
  • Andrew Parkinson, Tactician
  • Charlie Agnew, Bosun
