LOG ENTRY

CHASE LOG–PREDEPARTURE
DATE: April 14, 2003
LOCATION: Shoreside – Predeparture – 43° 43.5’N, 070°13.1’W
WIND SPEED AND DIRECTION: N/A
HEADING: N/A

Getting closer… Chase has been in the water now for 3 weeks, and she’s looking more like she’s blue water ready all the time. Wind gen on, sat phone antenna on, sails and rigging all set.

Still have some issues, though, like the SSB which, when tested, failed to transmit… no time to fix, so gotta buy a new one!

For that matter, been so busy have been unable to test other things that I’m taking for granted, like the autopilot, the Monitor, the running lights – even that the mast will stay up for the first sail! (Been too busy to sail. On the other hand, it might be smart to test prior to leaving, as limping back into harbor an hour after departure could be kind of embarrassing…)

Initial crew meeting accomplished 5/11; boat and safety walk-through, and man overboard drill.

Departure still set for June 3, with passage to Azores (probably stop in Flores first) of 16 days or so…
